I have seen some of this statistics before reading this article. But nonetheless I still found the stats interesting to read. Their were three statistics that really stood out while reading this article. The first one was the amount that it costs each student to attend a public school. Even the lowest number was still $5000, with the highest near $15,000. I enjoyed the comparisions from different states as well. The second interesting stat to me, was the percentages of teachers according to gender and race. Over 91% of teacher are white, and almost 80% are female. The female percentages was not that surprising to me, but the race was complete shock to me. I can't believe that education is dominated that much by white people. Plus the percentages of teachers with three years or less experience in the nations public schools seemed somewhat high to me. Though it was not surprising that more city schools had a higher percentage. The last statistics that caught my attention were the scores of our performance assessments compared to other countries throughout the years. We were pretty much tops in reading, math, and science for 4th and 8th grader, but dropped significantly lower for 15 year olds. Wonder what occured in those few years to cause such a decline.
Statistics have always interested me, so I obtained a lot of interesting and useful information while reading this article. Many times educational articles are painful to read, but this is one that was not.
